What Remains: Personal Objects and the Memory of the Holocaust

On 20 January 2026, the Institute for the History of the German Jews in Hamburg, the Wiener Holocaust Library London and the Stanley Burton Centre for Holocaust and Genocide Studies at the University of Leicester were hosts to a virtual event for Holocaust Memorial Day 2026. The event was organised in response to the 2026 HMD theme ‘Bridging Generations’. As Holocaust survivors become fewer, an urgent question comes into focus: how do we remember those who were murdered when living witnesses are no longer with us? About the event
