Julia Schulte-Werning M.A.

Julia Schulte-Werning is an academic staff member at the IGdJ from September to December 2026. Previously, she was a predoc-university assistant at the Department of History at the University of Vienna 2021–2025. In her PhD she researched the history of international Jewish aid and (post)colonial public health in Morocco between the Holocaust and decolonization (1943–1967). Among others, her research has been supported by the OEAD Marietta Blau Grant and the JDC Archives Fellowship. In 2023 she was a guest researcher at the Jacob Robinson Institute for the History of Individual and Collective Rights at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and 2023–2024 she was a fellow at the Center for Jewish History in New York. 2025–2026 she was a fellow at the Leibniz-Institute for European History in Mainz. Julia Schulte-Werning studied history in Freiburg and Vienna.

At the IGdJ, Julia Schulte-Werning is developing a grant proposal on Jewish migration history. In her project on Jewish old age care in a transnational perspective, she connects the history of local old age homes with migration history and the history of decolonization.
