Launch of a New Website During the IGdJ's 60th Anniversary Celebrations
With a new website that provides access to and insights into the holdings of Hamburg’s Jewish congregation archives, the IGdJ is supporting the digitization projects of the relevant archival materials at the Hamburg State Archives (StaHH) and the Central Archives for the History of the Jewish People (CAHJP) in Jerusalem.
The website “Jewish Congregation Archives Hamburg” (https://jewish-hamburg-archive.net) provides entry points to both archive databases, uses a timeline to highlight the history of the community archives from 1936 to the present, and suggests potential opportunities that digitization and the planned virtual consolidation of sources and data could offer.
On the occasion of the Institute’s 60th anniversary, the website was officially launched on 19 May 2026 in the atrium of the Hamburg State and University Library – Carl von Ossietzky, in collaboration with representatives from both archives, as part of the event "Quellen, Daten, Kontexte – Eine Website zur virtuellen Zusammenführung eines geteilten Archives".
